Alice's 20th Birthday

"Happy Birthday"
I (Alice) just turned 20 years old!

Pictured above is the carrot cake that my mother
made for my birthday dinner that followed my
absolute most favorite meal.

These are the gifts from my wonderful husband, Jesse,
and my little 2 month old son Gavin.  Gavin
signed his card to me with his feet (with help from his daddy).

Jesse gave me a whole box of CHOCOLATES!!!
 ...and the sweetest card ever!

 My goofy boys

Next we went out to a restaurant for
brunch and Gavin gave us one of his first
really big smiles.

Then the Carrells, Wrights, and the three of
us all went for a swim in a nearby creek.

Gavin with his Grandma.

(sorry for all the tons of baby pictures, but
we think he's really cute:)! )

Now I am officially 20 years old and so blessed to have
a wonderful family, precious little boy, and the greatest
husband in the world!!
It has been quite amazing to see what all God has
done this past year!  We are truly blessed!

Blueberry Muffin Recipe

With all of our many blueberries,
I decided to make some muffins with a few
of them and they were delicious!
So here's my recipe for them so ya'll
can try them too :).

Blueberry Muffin Recipe

1 3/4 cups self rising flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 well-beaten egg
3/4 cup milk
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup fresh blueberries or frozen
ones that have been thawed out and
drained well

Mix dry ingredients into bowl.  Combine egg, milk, and butter and add all at once to dry ingredients.  Stir quickly just till dry ingredients are moistened. Next gently stir in blueberries.  Fill greased muffin pan 2/3 full.  Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

Enjoy!

Making Sawdust

We've been cutting lumber on our sawmill
recently for some customers and for ourselves.
Here some pictures of our sawmill.

A saw blade

We run a portable
Woodmizer sawmill.

Sometimes Alice runs the saw head
while Jesse off loads the boards

and runs the machine.

An order of wood waiting
to be delivered.

We cut all kinds of wood into lumber,
pictured above is hickory and the one
darker board is red oak.

Here are some pine boards.

The lumber pictured above and
below are some beautiful cedar.  They
look so pretty and smell amazing!

(different colors of sawdust including
hickory, pine, walnut, cedar, and oak)

Another great side benefit is the
sawdust! Especially the cedar sawdust.
It has many uses such as keeping moths
out of closets, keeping shoes smelling
nice, as filling for vintage dolls,
scenery for model train tracks, and
many others.  Below is a link to our
Etsy store where we have some
of our cedar sawdust packaged for sale.

Cute Little Kittens

We went over to visit Jesse's family
and Chelsey' s cat had just had kittens
a few days before.  Mommy kitty,
Rose seems so pleased,
content, and happy with her
new role in life as mother.

They are so small!

kittens.  Baby animals are so
precious and such a cute part
of God's creation.

Blackberry Lemonade Recipe

Blackberry Lemonade
Recipe

Ingredients:
4 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup honey
Not quite 1 cup fresh
squeezed lemon juice
1 cup blackberries

First in a saucepan bring 2 cups of
water to boil.  As soon as it boils add
sugar and honey.  Then remove from
heat and add lemon juice.
In a blender add the lemon juice mixture, blackberries, and
remaining 2 cups water.
Blend until even.  Pour through strainer
or cheesecloth and chill.
Serve cold with ice.
Enjoy!

You can adjust measurements to
your own desire of sour and sweet
tastes. These were a pretty good
guestimate of what I used.
(I apologize for the poor quality of
the picture).

It's was so fun to make a drink
using the blackberries that
we picked and the honey that
came from our beehives!

This is an awsome recipe for these
hot and sticky July days and a great
way to use those wild blackberries
this summer. I hope ya'll try it. :)

4 Great Blogs to Visit

I thought it might be helpful to any
of our friends if we listed some
other great blogs to check out so
here are a few of the ones
that we really like.

One is our sister Chelsey's
(as I've mentioned before), that
is full of great articles and is
soon to have many "do it yourself"
projects like hair tutorials and such.
Also another great one is
of a sweet family homestead
These are some friends of ours
that are doing much the same things
as us and her sewing work is
always a great inspiration for me (Alice).
And last but not least is the
blog of a good friend of mine that
is definitely worth checking out
Anyway, we hope that this list is
of some help and hope that y'all get
a chance to look them all up. :)
They are quite worth supporting.

A Recent Harvest from our Garden

Our pretty little green tomatoes.
We had a terrible time with tomatoes this
year.  First we started them as seeds
and a mouse dug them all up.  So next
we planted some more and a surprising
very late frost killed them.  Well, that's what
we thought, then weeks later we saw the
little tomato plants barely peeking above the
ground with tiny leaves on them!
Now they are finally full size plants and
there are little green tomatoes on them.
We are so pleased!

We pulled the last of our potatoes
for the summer and have quite
enough to last us for a
very long time hopefully.

This is probably almost a third
of the potatoes that we harvested.

Berry Pickin'

We recently got to go berry picking!  These are some of
the blueberries that we got from our plants.  They are
soooooooo delicious!!

Alice picking the blueberries.

Then Jesse and Alice went to the
huge wild blackberry patches.  There
were so many!!  We picked for hours and
never even made a dent.

Jesse picking all those wonderful
wild blackberries.

 It was amazing how many
tasty ripe berries there were.

Jesse was smart and wore gloves,
I (Alice) on the other hand was
covered in little cuts and nicks from the
briars, but all those delicious berries
were well worth it :).
 Washing the blackberries.
 Yummy!!!
Just a few of the bags that went
into our freezer for later.

 That afternoon Gavin enjoyed
hanging out with his Uncle Isaac
and Aunt Rachel while we were
all visiting with each other.
Here he is with my (Alice's) parents.
He is very loved!
