Helping Host a Baby Shower

A couple of weeks or so ago I (Alice) got to help with

the decorations for my sister-in-law's baby shower.  It was

a very fun and exciting project.  We first took cute little

water bottles and swapped their labels for pretty, little,

pink gingham ribbon (Rachel's idea) and I thought they turned

out quite nice.

 My sister-in-laws Chelsey and Charlene were

awesome helpers in getting it all together.

 The baby shower was hosted in a beautiful garden

that was gorgeous in itself as you can see in the

following pictures.

August day.  The weather was perfect

with a comfortable summer breeze.

 Rachel and I found all of these pretty

vases at the dollar store and dressed 'em up

a bit with light green ribbon.

 Next Chelsey and I placed a white tablecloth on first

then layered a pink one over it and gathered the pink

one up and placed more green ribbon as bows on the tucks.

 For the flowers I decided to go with pink

roses, hydrangeas, and baby's breath.  The flowers

were so beautiful.

All of the food was made by Rachel's little sister

 Hannah is an amazing little girl with a great

talent for cooking.  She did a wonderful job on all

of the food and the this event that she gave for her sister.

 The roses worked perfectly I thought

especially because Isaac and Rachel's

little one is to be named Rosaleen.

 Rachel's mother made a little game for the shower

"pin the diaper on the baby".  It was cute.

 And last but not least, the happy parents

received many, many gifts of love.

We even placed some roses and baby's breath into

the archway that you pass under to enter the garden.

Over all I think the whole baby shower

turned out quite beautifully.

Inspection of a Bee Hive

Hey, we're back!  So sorry we've not posted anything

in so long, but we've been terribly busy lately as we'll

explain in the next few posts.  Here is a short version of an

inspection from top to bottom of a typical healthy hive.  We'll

do a more elaborate post for the upcoming fall inspection and

will describe the honey extraction from start to finish so ya'll

can better understand how we get the honey from hive to jar!

If you look really close you'll see her in the center.

She is in the very middle and much longer and

bigger than the other bees.

Alice's 20th Birthday

"Happy Birthday"

I (Alice) just turned 20 years old!

Pictured above is the carrot cake that my mother

made for my birthday dinner that followed my

absolute most favorite meal.

 These are the gifts from my wonderful husband, Jesse, 

and my little 2 month old son Gavin.  Gavin

signed his card to me with his feet (with help from his daddy).

Jesse gave me a whole box of CHOCOLATES!!!

 Next we went out to a restaurant for

brunch and Gavin gave us one of his first

really big smiles.

 Then the Carrells, Wrights, and the three of
us all went for a swim in a nearby creek.

 Now I am officially 20 years old and so blessed to have

a wonderful family, precious little boy, and the greatest

husband in the world!!

It has been quite amazing to see what all God has

done this past year!  We are truly blessed! 

Blueberry Muffin Recipe

 With all of our many blueberries, 

I decided to make some muffins with a few
of them and they were delicious! 

So here's my recipe for them so ya'll
can try them too :).

Blueberry Muffin Recipe

1 3/4 cups self rising flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 well-beaten egg
3/4 cup milk
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup fresh blueberries or frozen
ones that have been thawed out and
drained well

Mix dry ingredients into bowl.  Combine egg, milk, and butter and add all at once to dry ingredients.  Stir quickly just till dry ingredients are moistened. Next gently stir in blueberries.  Fill greased muffin pan 2/3 full.  Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

Making Sawdust

We've been cutting lumber on our sawmill

recently for some customers and for ourselves.

and runs the machine.

We cut all kinds of wood into lumber,

pictured above is hickory and the one

darker board is red oak.

below are some beautiful cedar.  They

look so pretty and smell amazing!

Another great side benefit is the

sawdust! Especially the cedar sawdust.

It has many uses such as keeping moths

out of closets, keeping shoes smelling

nice, as filling for vintage dolls,

scenery for model train tracks, and
