Covered Bridge

Last Sunday we sang at a nearby church
for their homecoming and afterwards the
Wrights and us stopped by the old Horton
Mill Covered Bridge on our way home.

This covered bridge is located near Oneonta
and is one of many in Alabama.

The bridge was recently fixed up and now
cars can drive across it again.

Made almost entirely of lumber cut on
a circular sawmill.

There is nothing more pleasant than
playing in a creek on a summer afternoon
which is exactly what we got to do next.

There were lots of really big cool
rocks by the creek like this one.

Jesse and all his siblings had a great time
swimming in the creek.

Our little Gavin enjoying a warm
summer afternoon in his "daddy's dirt
monster" outfit.  One day
he'll be playing in creeks too!

A full Wright family photo now with
three generations.

Bluegrass Gospel Concert featuring 'Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver'

We got to enjoy going to a bluegrass gospel concert in
Cullman the other day featuring the group Doyle Lawson
and Quicksilver.  They are one of the greatest bluegrass
groups around.

Music has always been an important part of our family.
I (Alice) have been playing the piano since I was six
years old and when I was 11 my daddy got me my first
mandolin.  We started our family's bluegrass gospel group in 2008
when I was 13 and my brother Isaac was 15.  It was actually
at a bluegrass festival that me Jesse and I met for the first time.
Above is the most recent picture of our band The Carrell Family
(it was taken 6 weeks before Gavin was born and needs
updated now).  Jesse and I are on the far left, my parents in the
middle, and Isaac and his wife on the far right.

Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver's new bus.

Bama Blu-Grace was the opening group for the night.
My family first met them right after Isaac and
I started learning our instruments.

Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver giving an excellent
performance as usual.

Gavin enjoying his first bluegrass concert.

We had a special treat that night; this seven year old
boy came up to Doyle Lawson before the show and
asked to sing a song with him.  He did an excellent job
and was very impressive.  I'm sure we'll hear from him
again in years to come.

Summer Harvest

This is one "t-shirt full" of our first larger harvest of
the sugar snap peas from our garden this year.

 Jesse working in the garden.

A few potatoes we pulled early.

These are some of the fruit trees in
our orchard (they need some tending to)
that we planted last year a month or so
after our wedding (which was in March).

 Our blueberries are looking great.

All of the summer wildflowers look
beautiful now like these black-eyed susans
that were out by the road.

It won't be too long now before all of the wild blackberries
are ripe and ready to pick.  We can't wait to make some cobblers
and other wonderful dishes with them.  Be sure to check
back on our blog for more recipes when the blackberries
are completely ready for harvesting.

A delicious salad made from our own garden!

Our little Gavin is growing so fast.  It is so
hard to believe that he's already two weeks old!

The bee yard is thriving with thousands of tiny,
buzzing, hard workers.

Jesse found this little bird's nest
while he was cutting the grass
the other day.

One of our main projects now is getting the
sawmill shed built. Pictured above are the trusses for
it.  They were Alice's Grandpa's that he was going to
use for a building to put his sawmill under, but after he
passed away, they came here.  I'm sure he would be proud to
know that they are being put to good use, still going over
a sawmill.  Behind them you can see a few of our beautiful
Alabama hills; the foothills of the Appalachian mountains.

The site for the sawmill shed has been measured,
strung out, and soon to start being built.

Gavin Is Here! or "Little Man" as we call him

Our little blessing!!!
Gavin Ray Wright was born on May 29
weighing 7 lbs. 2 oz. and 19 in. long.

Alice, two hours before Gavin was born.

Our first glimpse of him immediately
after he was born.  The happiest of parents around!
Thank the Lord for his all knowing guidance in our lives!

He's so sweet and very loved.

Welcome home Gavin!!!
We love you!!!

Momma and baby are doing great and

Thank you so much to everyone who was praying!
